Getting outside is vital for our mental and physical health, and if you are lucky enough to have a garden or outside space then you can reap the benefits of being outside in nature. Perhaps you are not that into gardening, or even if you are, there are other ways to get yourself outside and into the fresh air. Here are some great ideas to implement in your garden that will encourage you to get outside more.
Buy Some Outdoor Seating
If you want to spend more time outside, then it is important to have some comfortable seating. Invest in a couple of metal garden benches that will look gorgeous against a flowery backdrop. You can then read a book, take your morning coffee or breakfast outside, and enjoy the fresh air.
Get a Fire Pit
Now you’ve got your outside seating sorted, it will be nice to be able to enjoy it at any time of day, and even into the autumn. Having a fire pit means you can sit outside for a bit longer as the day turns to night, and it is a nice sociable focal point for having friends or family over. Rather than sitting inside, get yourselves round the fire pit, toasting some marshmallows with a few drinks.
Create a Pond
Having a pond or water feature in your garden is a great way to attract wildlife to your garden, which in turn benefits you as you get to see all the wildlife that visits. Expect frogs, newts, bats, and foxes to visit your garden once you have a water feature. It’s a great watering hole for some animals and having water in the garden can be calming for you too.
Try Growing Vegetables
You don’t have to have a lot of space to try growing your own vegetables. In fact, you can even grow potatoes in a bag which doesn’t take up a lot of space. If you have room for raised beds, then growing your own veg is a great way to get yourself outside, sowing, tending to, and picking your food for dinner. If that seems a bit daunting, then maybe get a couple of tomato plants in pots, or just try growing some fresh herbs. It’s incredibly satisfying eating something that you have grown yourself.
Get Some Outdoor Games
Getting some fun games for the garden is a great way to spend more time outside and as a family. Get yourself a set of Boules or some skittles and have a fun filled afternoon in the garden. Even just a football or a couple of badminton rackets makes for some outdoor fun. If you’re normally one for working out in the living room, then why not take your daily workout outside into the fresh air?
Now that the days are getting longer and the sun will be shining more, it’s time to make some changes to your garden and get yourself outside in nature, whether that’s by relaxing with a book and a coffee or getting active with the kids.
