With everything going on in the world today, it seems as though climate change and working toward a Net Zero future may be more difficult than projected a few months ago, and getting palm trees won’t solve that. At the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference held in Glasgow, Scotland, hopes were high that much of Europe was on the way to meeting the 2050 goal. That was less than six months ago in late October through early November 2021.
Russia at the Heart of Heightened Global Concerns
However, much has happened in the intervening months and with Russia’s takeover and resulting fire at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, that goal may have been set back decades. Nuclear power is one of the key ways in which the world works toward a major reduction in carbon emissions, but Net Zero isn’t the only thing threatened. All eyes are turned on recent events and there is growing concern that Russia now has one of the largest European nuclear power plants under its control and we are not talking about pine trees or foundation plants.
It’s Time for Homeowners to Step Up
Although the conference targets government and commercial concerns, homeowners have their part to play in reaching Net Zero as well. Perhaps the world will not realise Net Zero by 2050 but if everyone does their part, there may be a day when carbon emissions may be almost non-existent. What can homeowners do to add to the efforts of governments around the world? It has long been known that one of the main reasons why home heating systems consume as much energy as they do is because of the heat wasted in exhaust. Not only will this reduce the amount of energy spent to heat a home, but it will do something more important in the long term. That is 80% energy recovery which will help to reduce carbon emissions and one very efficient way of working toward Net Zero.
A Cumulative Effort
Even if every major corporation around the world found a way to operate at zero emissions, that would still only put a dent in a global problem. Everyone must do their part to reduce consumption of energy produced with fossil fuels. There is no way around it. The only way to achieve Net Zero is for everyone to do their part. If more consumers found ways of reducing both energy consumption and waste, that goal could be met.
The point being made here is that it will take a cumulative effort to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. The problem goes beyond corporate gluttony. Unless something is done soon, we may be fighting a losing battle. Homeowners can do their part and heat recovery systems are perhaps the biggest strides they can make toward reducing waste that is a big part of the problem.
