I will endeavour at every moment to revitalise the manufacturing industry in the electorate of Port Adelaide.
Whether it be vehicles, submarines or renewable technologies - we have the skills and desire to be innovative and competitive in our global environment.
Australians are brilliant at ideas, but too often we sell our innovations and raw materials offshore when we should keep them here, add value to them and invest in our own people to support our own jobs.
I want long term jobs for our children and their children. We have the foundations to be the leaders in defence and transport fabrication right now.
Let’s build the subs and the frigates, let’s get involved in electric vehicles, renewable energy and future technologies. And lets make sure our electorate benefits the most!
Voting for the Nick Xenophon Team is a vote for Australian Made and our long term future.
We should keep the car industry in Elizabeth. We must not give up.
Before the closure in 2017 we must find a new direction for the manufacturing plant and its component supply chain.
Electric, Hydrogen and driver less cars are the future and now is the perfect time to refocus our sights and to be innovative.
Germany commits $80 per person with government investment in their car industry yet we could not commit to $18 per person to keep our car industry afloat.
Climate Change & Renewable Energy
We must be sure to cap climate temperature change to 2%.
Investment in free/clean energy should be a priority.
More funding for the Clean Energy Finance Corporation.
Drug Enforcement & Ice
Drugs to be seen as a health issue rather than a law enforcement issue.
Rehabilitation, not imprisonment. This must involve adequately resourced rehabilitation services.
Future Technologies
Investigate the nuclear debate but solve the storage issue first.
Invest in electricity storage and Lithium batteries.
Electric Vehicles locally produced.
Housing Affordability
First home buyer incentives to be reinstated.
Foreign Investment buyers to fund the first home buyers scheme through a levy.
Submarines
Port Adelaide and the Le Fevre Peninsula should be the defence capital of Australia.
We must have a long term build of 12 submarines as per the Defence White Papers.
At any one time 1/4 of submarines are being maintained, therefore 12 subs are needed to protect Australia's coast.
This will bring new technologies and business and employment to the Port.
Small Business
Small business drives the economy and drives employment.
We must abolish Payroll Tax which is an inhibitor to employment.
Unemployment
We must find new opportunities in manufacturing and small business.
We must build submarines, frigates and vehicles.
A competitive nation in a global environment is mandatory, this does not mean the demise of our standard of living, we can reduce costs to business utilising new technologies such as battery storage and drive power costs down with wind and solar.
Australian made products should be a first choice for government.
