Cheeky chicken sandwich

Learning how to make this cheeky chicken sandwich will teach children aged 8-9 years how to spread, cut and arrange. They will then be able to select their own toppings – and even make their own sandwiches!

Equipment

  • Knife

  • Chopping board

  • Fork

  • Serving plate

Steps

  • Step 1

    Step 1

    Spread the slices of bread with butter or margarine.

  • Step 2

    Step 2

    Place the lettuce on a chopping board and shred into thin strips; use the fork to secure the leaves as they are cut. ADULT SUPERVISION.

  • Step 3

    Step 3

    Slice the tomato; use the fork to keep the tomato steady. ADULT SUPERVISION.

  • Step 4

    Step 4

    Place the chicken on top of one slice of bread.

  • Step 5

    Cover with the shredded lettuce and tomato.

  • Step 6

    Top with a second slice of bread.

  • Step 7

    Step 7

    Cut the sandwich into quarters. ADULT SUPERVISION.

  • Step 8

    Step 8

    Serve on a plate.

wholemeal bread

reduced-fat spread

lettuce leaves

large tomato
2 slices
chicken

Handy Hint(s)

Swap the chicken for two slices of ham or 2 x 15ml spoons of hummus.  

Remember, if you have a moist filling such as hummus, you do not need butter or margarine on your sandwich.
