Slipping into a hot tub or hot water from immersion heaters is one of the greatest ways to relax and unwind that there is. Many people enjoy taking a dip after a long day, on the weekends, or even on cold winter days. However, having a hot tub installed is a commitment. There is a lot of care that goes into making sure they look and work their best.
After all, they are an investment as much as a luxury. They bring value and sometimes draw extra interest from buyers when they are in homes which are on the market. With all that being said, it becomes your responsibility to make sure they stay in good shape. Here are a few suggestions:
A Good Cover
This should be the first thing you get to help protect your new hot tub. In fact, any quality manufacturer should include at least a basic one with any purchase. You may want to upgrade fairly quickly, depending on the quality of the stock cover.
It is also good to develop the practice of covering your hot tub every time it is not in use. This will keep leaves, dirt and dust, pine needles, animals and insects, and many other things out of it.
Sojag Privacy Curtains
Expanding on the idea of covering your hot tub, you could go one step further and use something like a Sojag hot tub privacy curtain. These are actually freestanding covers which encompass the entire hot tub itself. Imagine a sturdy and well built tent-link lodge for your hot tub. They also work well for gazebos and other small, independent structures as well. The purple curtains from your bedroom will not work with hot tub.
They come in a number of different sizes, shapes, designs, and colors. You can get something very generic to blend in with a variety of styles or you can choose to customize them to a very particular taste. The most important thing is that they are extremely strong and durable and can protect your hot tub 12 months a year.
Get a Smartop
This idea may be a little more pricy and some folks might be a little leery about even more technology but for the right owners, a smartop could be a good choice. They can be programmed to a specific schedule, controlled with the click of a button from your phone or device, and are very sturdy in their own right. Most factory covers will be vinyl. The same is true of many of the upgrades you can buy from accessory and specialty stores.
Some may be better made than others or have protective coatings on them that make them superior to other options. However, they still degrade over time and with exposure to the elements. Smartops do not suffer the same reactions to UV rays, freezing temperatures, or heavy winds, rain, sleet, or snow.
Perform Regular Checkups and Maintenance
Finally, one of the best ways to protect you hot tub all year long is to make sure you stay on top of all its service needs. Perform visual inspections of the hoses, hookups, connections, jets, motor and mechanical components, and anything else that you can get a good look at.
Make sure that any manufacturer’s maintenance recommendations are followed, and make any necessary repairs immediately before using the hot tub again. Just as with nearly everything else, the better you take care of it, the longer it will last.
You may also want to consider freestanding tubs with jets if you’re looking for a more affordable alternative to a hot tub.
